UPDATED (Some have been deleted and we’ve added at least 8 more)
March 8th became International Women’s Day in 1913. Legacy, journey, strength community are a few of the words that come to mind when I think of this day.
My journey began before I was born. My grandmothers and my mom were part of my journey, part of the path that led me to where I am today.
I didn’t know my grandmothers very well, but I know they were strong women who put their family first. They were women who worked hard for everything they received. My grandmother Catherine was a nurse and a teacher who had 16 children. My grandmother Anna had a seventh grade education and the biggest heart that welcomed many into her home and family.
My mother is the strongest woman I know. I’ve watched her since I was little. She’s never been afraid to get her hands dirty to get a job done. She’s taught me to be strong and independent. She’s taught me that the world owes me nothing and that if I want something to happen I should go make it happen. My mother taught me sitting in pity is never pretty. No, these lessons were never verbal lines of text; they were always taught by they way she lived her life.
The Women who came before us did not always have a voice but they executed and lived a life worthy of a leader. They continue to lead through their legacy. That legacy is present in each woman today.
Across the global we are a community. A community built by our shared histories, courageous stories and unique strengths.
Communities are important in every ecosystem and for women business owners and entrepreneurs’ strengthening our community is more important than ever.
The journey of a business owner and entrepreneur can be very lonely, and when the extra challenges women face is added in, the loneliness can seem astronomic.
“Never fear hope is hear” – in my Superwoman voice. I’ve compiled a list of 17 (updated to 24) online and face-to-face communities for women business owners and entrepreneurs.
These communities were chosen because they have built a community that supports the business model of women joining an actual community. There are many websites that focus on the same topic but leave out the ability to connect women with other women thereby building a community amongst the women not just between the organization and the community.
These communities all have two things in common
- focus on women business owners and entrepreneurs
- enable community members to connect with other community members
